A floating sauna (in Swedish: bastuflotte) is a sauna on a raft or a boat. You step out of the sauna and swim right from the deck. Around Stockholm there are 18 floating saunas: in the city bays, on Lake Mälaren and out on the islands.
A few are public and cost little. Clubs and volunteers run Sätrabastun and Tanto Bastu, so there are only some open times. Basto Hagaparken Albano on Brunnsviken bay is open all year, for one person or for your group.
Most floating saunas are private: you book the whole sauna for your group. On some, a captain takes you out on the water, for example the Lidingö sauna boat or the full-day trip with Archipelago Sauna. The biggest is Jungfrusund bastuflotte on Ekerö, with space for 24 people.
The cheapest is Sätrabastun (Skärholmen): from 40 kr per person. Then Tanto Bastu (60 kr) and Sauna Wellness Alviks Strand (195 kr). Prices are from each sauna’s own website.
The lowest price for the whole sauna is 500 kr, at Bastuflotte Gustavsberg (Nautilus). Half of the 13 saunas with a price cost 2,995 kr or less. The price is for your whole group, not per person.
Tanto Bastu, Basto Hagaparken Albano, Vaxholms Bastubåt, Sjöbastun Drevviken, Gräddö Sjöliv Sjösaunan and Djurgårdsbastun. Use the filter “Open all year” to see them all.
Yes. Most floating saunas here are private, so only your group is on board. Many are made for parties and company events. Each sauna page shows how many people fit.
Many do. Look for “Wood stove” on the cards, or see only wood-fired saunas.
